The Neem tree (Azadirachtaindica) is a tropical evergreen tree native to India and the Indian subcontinent including Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. It is typically grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions. Its fruits and seeds are the sources of neem oil. It has been used in the Ayurvedic tradition for thousands of years for maintaining health and overall well-being. Every part of this tree has medicinal value and all parts of this tree can be used, the sap, twigs, flowers, seed kernels, gum, fruits, and roots. Neem has antibacterial, antiparasitic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that not only benefit your health but also can help you to get rid of common beauty problems. The Sanskrit name ‘Nimba’ comes from the term ‘nimbatisyasthyamdadati’ which means ‘to give good health’. Neem has a garlic-like odor and a bitter taste. The various parts of this tree have many uses that aptly give neem its name in Sanskrit- “sarvaroganivarini”, meaning ‘the reliever of all diseases’. Benefits of Neem for skin: Neem is a good fighter against skin problem. If you rub your body with neem paste before taking a bath, wait a few minutes to dry it and wash it off with water. It will act as an antibacterial cleanser. Alternatively, you can soak some neem leaves in water overnight and bath with this water in the morning.
Neem leaves for hair: Add a cup of fresh neem leaves to boiling water and use this water to rinse your hair after shampooing your hair. The antibacterial property of neem helps to treat dry scalp, dandruff and hair fall issues.
Neem leaves for chickenpox: Neem leaves are used to treat chickenpox. A patient is always advised to take a bath with neem water to soothe the patient’s skin and prevent additional spreading of the infection. In order to increase the immunity of the body, neem leaves are also taken internally in the form of neem capsules or made into a tea.
